CIRCE Foundation was established in 1993 as an independent Centre of Research by the University of Zaragoza, the Regional Government of Aragon and the Endesa Group. In 2006 the SAMCA Group became the fourth foundation member. CIRCE currently has a staff of over 190 full time people including researchers, collaborating professors and administration staff. The variety of profiles and the multidisciplinary nature of the staff allow CIRCE to create the most efficient team for each case, capable of producing high quality results. Since 1993, CIRCE has conducted more than 2,500 R&D&I projects.
CIRCE´s first commitment is with the energy efficiency and renewable energies, from the evaluation of energy resources for generation, transmission and distribution to the rational use of energy and resources.
The main activities of CIRCE are:
•R&D, Research, development and innovation for the energy sector. The research and development of CIRCE cover four main areas of the energy sector: evaluation of resources and processes, electricity generation, transmission and distribution, and efficient use of resources;
•Renewable Energy Development;
•Efficiency, planning, energy saving and other electrical and thermal studies;
•Organization of seminars, conferences and outreach activities in the energy sector;
•Publishing specialized books, articles and outreach materials;
•Specific training in optimization, energy efficiency and renewable energy degrees, managers, technicians and operators in the energy sector.
Focused on the current project CIRCE holds expertise in the following R&D lines:
•Energy Characterisation of industrial sectors and activities;
•Life-Cycle Analysis of processes, products and services including Life Cycle Costs and Life Cycle Management;
•Verification and measurement of energy efficiency undertakings;
•Thermoeconomic assessment and Exergy analysis of industrial processes.
